Red long-eared bat (Lasiurus borealis)

Japanese: アカコウモリ（英語表記）Lasiurus borealis

Its English names include red bat, which refers to its body color, and tree bat, which refers to its habitat. This mammal of the family Vespertilionidae in the order Chiroptera has the highest number of offspring of any chiroptera, and males are a beautiful orange-red color. It is widely distributed from southern Canada to South America, living in forests. Its body length is 5-7 cm, forearm length 3.5-4.5 cm, and weight is 8-13 g. Its ears have rounded tips and are relatively short, its wings are slender, and its tail is long. It also has long hairs on the upper surface of its interfemoral membrane. Unlike many bats, the hair color differs between sexes, with the dorsal surface of males being a beautiful orange-red or reddish-brown, and that of females being a pale yellow-gray brown.
