Maha Bandoola

1782‐1825
Commander of the Burmese army during the First Burmese War. Born in Ngapayin village, Ahlone district, his childhood name was Maung Yi. He served the crown prince of King Bodawpaya, but after his death, he served his son, Prince Sagaing. Appointed Governor of Dabain in 1813, he participated in King Bodawpaya's expeditions to Assam and Manipur, achieving many distinguished services. He served as a staff officer in the pursuit of Manipur in 1821, and as deputy commander in the siege of Assam. In 1823, he was appointed commander when a conflict arose with India over the ownership of Sinmapyu Island.

第1次ビルマ戦争のときビルマ軍を指揮した司令官。アロン郡ヌガパイン村の出身で，幼名はマウン･イ。ボードーパヤー王の皇太子に仕えたが，皇太子の死後その子サガイン侯に仕えた。1813年ダバイン太守に任ぜられ，ボードーパヤー王のアッサム遠征やマニプル遠征に従軍して数々の勲功をたてた。21年のマニプル追討のときは参謀，アッサム攻略では副司令官を務め，23年シンマピュー島の帰属をめぐってインドと衝突が起きると司令官に任命された。
