Kanoko (coral) - Kanoko

...The deep red blood-red coral, mainly collected off the coast of Kochi Prefecture, is also called ox blood or beni, and is highly valued. Those with small red and white spots are called "kanoko." New names such as "garnet" for a type of Japanese quince, and "scotch" for those with red and white stripes or spots are also being used.
