Madurodam (English spelling)

Japanese: マドゥローダム(英語表記)Madurodam
Madurodam (English spelling)
A miniature city on the outskirts of The Hague, Netherlands, and one of the tourist attractions. It reproduces typical Dutch cities and rural landscapes at 1/25 of the actual size based on historical research. It opened in 1952. Its area is about 20,000 m2. The idea was conceived by Mrs. B. Boon van der Starp, director of the Dutch Student Sanatorium, to build a miniature city and use the entrance fees and other revenues to cover the costs of the sanatorium. It was completed with a large donation (from which the Madurodam name comes) and donations made by the Maduro couple in memory of the death of their only son, a student at Leiden University and reserve officer who died in a Nazi concentration camp.
