?-944 An Islamic theologian. The founder of the Maturidi sect, which, together with Ashari sect, represents Sunni theology. Not much is known about his life. He was active in Mawarannahr and died in Samarkand. The activities of this sect are largely limited to this region. The main difference between his sect and the Ashari sect, which emphasizes the absoluteness of God, is that he places a relatively small emphasis on human reason.
