Matsuura-so

Japanese:
Matsuura-so

This manor was part of the Saishokoin estate in Higashimatsuura County, Saga Prefecture. The land was originally the property of Chikugo no Kami Kunikane, but was passed on to his son Kunmichi, who made it a special title by Toba no Chokudashibumi around 1139 (Hōen 5), and was issued a Shishiboji (four-year certificate) to establish the title. It was later passed on to his daughter, the Oe clan, and after three generations of succession, it was passed on to Taira Masako. Masako donated it to Kenshunmon'in around 1175 (Angen 1), and after her death it was donated to Saishokoin. Masako was then granted the position of steward of Matsuura Manor. According to the Toji Hyakugo Monjo, a document dated June 20, 1178, the Goshirakawa Incho document, the four limits of Matsuura Manor are Matsuura River and Togo Sakainoyama in the east, Kisunomi and Hatanotsu Nishizaki in the west, Oose and Kishima Island in the south, and the sea and Kakarajima in the north, which shows that it was a vast manor that covered almost the entire Higashimatsuura district. Matsuura Manor was later placed under the control of Emperor Goshirakawa, and according to the Goryo Jusho in 1192, it was included in the Chokodo domain, but before 1270, it was returned to the domain of Saishokoin. According to an order for the construction of Kawakami Shrine dated August 16, 1292 (Shoo 5), the land count for use and control is "410 cho under Matsuura Saigo." According to the 1325 (Shochu 2) document dispersing annual taxes for the Saishokoin temple, the lord was Kanzanmi (third rank) and was paid 50 koku of rice as annual tax, one layer of brocade headwear, and 30 kanmon in tax, but had not made any advances since 1270 (Bun'ei 7) on the pretext of an invasion by the Mongols (Yuan Dynasty). After the Northern and Southern Courts period, the land was left unclaimed due to invasions by local samurai, and it ceased to function as a manor.
