(1) The Matsuki clan is a court noble family. It is the head family of the Nakamikado family of the Northern Fujiwara clan. The Nakamikado family traces its origins to Munetoshi, the grandson of Fujiwara no Michinaga's second son, Yorimasa. Munetoshi's eldest son, Munetada, became the Minister of the Right, and his grandson, Munetada, became the Minister of the Interior. Munetada left behind a valuable diary from the Insei period called "Chuu-u-ki." In the Muromachi period, the Matsuki clan took the name Matsuki and served the Imperial Court as a member of the Rakudo and Sho families. As court nobles, the family was of the Urinke clan, with the highest rank of Dainagon, and in the Edo period, they were awarded a stipend of 441 koku. During the Meiji Restoration, Munetoshi was under the rule of the Nakamikado family, and in 1884, when the Peerage Law was enacted, he was granted the title of count.
