A former town in Sarushima District, southwest of Ibaraki Prefecture. Long known as the producer of Sarushima tea, this agricultural region is thriving with rice and field farming. Since the construction of the Sakai Ohashi and Mebuki Ohashi bridges over the Tone River, it has developed as a supplier of vegetables to Tokyo.
