Year of death: Wadō 4, leap year 6, 22 (August 10, 711) Year of birth: Unknown An official from the end of the 7th century to the beginning of the 8th century. Son of Kunitari (Kamatari's cousin) and father of Azumahito, Kiyomaro, and others. His name is also written as Omi-maro, and he is sometimes recorded with the surname Fujiwara no Ason. In 686, he was arrested for taking part in the rebellion of Prince Otsu, but was pardoned after the prince's execution. At that time, he was said to have been a Dai-tonari. In 689, he was appointed as a judge along with Fujiwara no Fuhito and others, and is said to have worked hard to improve the Ritsuryo system. On August 19, 698, an imperial decree was issued that the Fujiwara surname should only be passed on to Kamatari's son Fuhito, and Omi-maro and others were to revert to the surname Nakatomi Ason since they would accompany him in Shinto rituals, and from then on the Fujiwara clan and the Nakatomi clan were clearly separated. He subsequently served as Chief Coin Minter and Left Chief Examiner, and in 708 he became Middle Counselor and Earl of Shinto Shrines, occupying an important position in both political and religious affairs.
