Szymanowska, MA (English spelling)

...Fryderyk Chopin, who wrote folk-like and innovative piano music, and Moniuszko, who wrote folk-like operas Halka (1847) and The Haunted House (1864), are representative of this period, but its predecessors include Jósef Antoni Franciszek Elsner (1769-1854) and Karol Kazimierz Kurpiński (1785-1857), who were also active as conductors and educators. We should also not ignore the virtuoso violinist Karol Józef Lipiński (1790-1861) and the female pianist Maria Agata Szymanowska (1789-1831), who left behind piano pieces such as mazurkas and polonaises. In the second half of the 19th century, such Polish composers as Zygmunt Noskowski (1846-1909), who wrote Poland's first symphonic poem, On the Steppes (1897), the composer and pedagogue Władysław Żeleński (1837-1921), the song and piano composer Eugeniusz Pankiewicz (1857-98), and the virtuoso violinist Bieniawski appeared.
