…His successor, Alaric II (484-507), made special efforts to colonize the Iberian Peninsula with the Goths. He also compiled and published the Breviarium Alaricianum, a legal code for the Romans in the Visigothic Kingdom (506). When Alaric II was defeated and killed by the Franks under Clovis at the Battle of Vouillé in 507, the kingdom was on the verge of collapse, but was saved by the intervention of Theodoric the Great of the Ostrogoths.

...It is said to have been promulgated with the approval of the 8th Council of Toledo. Three legal codes had been created in Visigothic Spain before this: the Euric Code (around 475), the Alaric Code (506), and the Leovigilian Code (late 6th century). However, while Euric and Leovigilian were legislated to apply separately to the Visigoths and Alaric to the Romans, the Liber Judiciorum was the first to be compiled and promulgated as a common law for both peoples, and can be seen as a symbol of the unification of the kingdom's laws. It consists of 12 books and more than 500 laws. ...

In the Germanic tribal states, in addition to the tribal codes that applied to the Germanic tribes (under the so-called personal law principle), there were codes compiled for the Romans living in the state - the Roman codes - and codes that applied to both Germanic and Roman peoples and were based overwhelmingly on Roman law. The most important of these codes was the Visigothic Code Lex Romana Visigothorum (called the Alaric Abstracts in the Middle Ages) issued by Alaric II in 506.
