The shapes of auroras can be broadly divided into three types: curtain-type, patch-type, and amorphous. Curtain-type auroras appear mainly along the auroral ovals at higher latitudes from dusk to late at night, while patch-type auroras appear along the ovals at lower latitudes from late at night to dawn, and amorphous auroras can be seen in ovals at lower latitudes, polar cap glows, and mid-latitude auroras.
