McMahon line

The border between northeastern British India and Tibet was agreed upon in secret by Britain and Tibet during the Simla Conference in March 1914. It was drawn by Henry McMahon, the head of the British delegation, and runs from Dip Pass in the east to the border with Bhutan, including Tawang in the west. After World War II, the People's Republic of China took the position that it could not recognize the McMahon Line as a legacy of British imperialism, but in the 1960 border agreement with Burma (now Myanmar), it effectively recognized the McMahon Line as the border.

1914年3月，シムラ会議開催中に，イギリスとチベットが秘密裏に合意したイギリス領インド北東部とチベット間の境界線。イギリス側代表団首席のマクマホンHenry McMahonが線引きしたもので，東側はディプ峠から西はタワングをインド側に含め，ブータン国境に至るラインである。第2次大戦後，中華人民共和国はマクマホン･ラインをイギリス帝国主義の遺産として承認できないとの立場をとったが，1960年のビルマ(現ミャンマー)との国境協定では若干の修正をしただけで事実上マクマホン･ラインを国境として承認した。
