soaring

Japanese: soaring
soaring

...Flying fish swing their tails powerfully underwater, using the force to launch themselves above the water surface and glide by spreading their long pectoral fins to the left and right. Large birds can also glide without moving their wings, but in many cases they use updrafts to soar up and down.
[Arm brachiation]
Among primates, the apes have a very unusual mode of locomotion.

From [Birds]

...Therefore, if they continue gliding in the absence of wind, their altitude will decrease, but by catching rising air currents, they can continue flying for a long time without losing altitude. Gliding that makes use of the wind is specifically called soaring. Birds that glide are large (at least medium-sized or larger), such as eagles and hawks, seabirds such as albatrosses and shearwaters, pelicans, cranes, and storks.

From [Flight]

…Among birds, hummingbirds are the most common. In contrast, large birds such as eagles and albatrosses excel at soaring. The principle is the same as gliding, but it is characterized by the use of natural wind energy, allowing them to stay in the air for long periods of time without flapping their wings. …
