Acosta, José de
Born: 1539. Medina del Campo
Died February 15, 1600. Salamanca, Spain. A Jesuit missionary in Spain. Sent to Spanish Peru in South America to spread Christianity. He also wrote many books on natural history. His main work is Historia Natural y Moral de las Indias (1590).

Colombian military officer, politician, geographer and historian. He joined S. Bolivar's Liberation Army and fought against the Spanish army for independence. His book "Viajes a las regiones ecuatoriales" was published.
