A dynasty in northern India from the 6th to 7th centuries. It rose to power in Uttar Pradesh after the fall of the Gupta dynasty, and secured its territory by fending off the Hephthalites. In the latter half of the 6th century, it also advanced into Bihar and became a powerful force. The names of seven kings are known, but the last king was subordinated to Harsha Vardhana when he unified northern India in the 7th century, and the dynasty soon fell into disuse.
