Japanese: メンフクロウ(仮面梟) - メンフクロウ（英語表記）barn owl

It is a general term for birds in the genus Tytonidae (family Tytonidae) of the order Strigiformes, or one of the species, Tyto alba (illustration). However, there is some confusion as to which species the name barn owl should refer to; some people call T. alba the barn owl and T. longimembris , which is found in Australia and South Asia, the barn owl. However, the latter is not considered an independent species, and is called the southern barn owl, a subspecies of T. capensis found in Africa.

フクロウ目メンフクロウ科Tytonidaeメンフクロウ属の鳥の総称，またはそのうちの1種Tyto alba（イラスト）を指す。ただし，メンフクロウの名をどの種にあてるかについては混乱があり，T.albaをナヤフクロウ，オーストラリアと南アジアに分布するT.longimembrisをメンフクロウと呼ぶ人もある。しかし，後者は独立種と考えず，アフリカ産のT.capensisの亜種としてミナミメンフクロウと呼ぶ。
