1908‐44 French poet and writer. Born in the Ardennes. While attending a lycée in Reims, he met Roger Gilbert-Lecomte (1907-43) and R. Baillant, and formed a group of young poets. He eventually moved to Paris, where he founded the journal "The Great Gamble" in 1928, and became a leading figure among the group. He was influenced by Surrealism from an early stage, and continued to have contact with Breton and others, but his natural metaphysical inclinations set him apart.
