…Construction began as a railway linking Shinano-Omachi and Itoigawa. The section between Shinano-Omachi and Yanaba was opened from the Omachi side in 1929, and was called the Oito Minami Line. Meanwhile, the section between Itoigawa and Nechi was opened from Itoigawa in 1934, and was called the Oito Kita Line. After that, extensions were gradually opened, and in 1937, the section between Matsumoto and Shinano-Omachi was purchased from the Shinano Railway, and added to the Oito Minami Line. …
