Microbody

Japanese: マイクロボディ（英語表記）microbody

Also called microbodies. Small granules in the cytoplasm that contain catalase and a group of oxidative enzymes, they are the same as peroxisomes in animals and glyoxysomes in plants. This name is the morphological name given to granules that J. Rhodin found in the epithelial cells of mouse renal tubules using an electron microscope (1954). C. de Duve also fractionated rat liver cells and obtained a granule fraction that contained oxidative enzymes including catalase, which he named peroxisomes (1965), since they are small bodies that generate and decompose hydrogen peroxide.

ミクロボディともいう。カタラーゼおよび一群の酸化酵素を含む細胞質内の小顆粒（かりゆう）をいい，動物でペルオキシソームperoxysomeや植物でグリオキシソームglyoxysomeと呼ばれたものと同一である。この名はローディンJ.Rhodinが電子顕微鏡でマウス腎尿細管の上皮細胞内に見いだした顆粒につけた形態学的な名である(1954)。またド･デューブC.de Duveはラット肝臓を細胞分画し，カタラーゼを含む酸化酵素群をもつ顆粒分画をえて，これを過酸化水素を生成分解する小体という意味で，ペルオキシソームと名付けた(1965)。
