A village located about 40 km downstream of the Mae Klong River from the town of Kanchanaburi in central-western Thailand. Known for its ancient ruins. In 1927, the remains of a temple foundation were discovered, from which a bronze lamp, a small bronze Buddha statue, a votive plaque, and fragments of stucco reliefs that decorated the side walls of the foundation were excavated. The bronze lamp is of the Greco-Roman style and is presumed to have been cast in Alexandria, Egypt, around the 1st or 2nd century and brought to Thailand. The bronze Buddha was thought to date to the 2nd century when it was discovered, since it was made in the Amaravati style of South India, but recent research has suggested that the ruins as a whole, including the bronze Buddha, date to the Dbaravati Kingdom (around the 7th century to the 11th century).
