It is distributed from Hokkaido to Okinawa, China, and Taiwan. Its weak, square stems grow upright and are about 30 cm tall. The leaves are alternate and irregularly divided into two trifoliate parts. From April to June, a raceme about 10 cm long grows at the top of the stem, and many reddish purple flowers bloom sideways. The flowers are labiate with four petals, have a spur, and are 10 to 20 mm long. The six stamens are fused in groups of three, and the two on each side have degenerated into half anthers. ...
