Born: October 28, 1867 in Badkreuznach
German biologist and philosopher of life. After working at the Institute of Biology in Italy from 1891 to 1900, he became an assistant professor at the University of Heidelberg in 1811, a professor at the University of Cologne in 1820, and at the University of Leipzig in 1933. He was initially influenced by E. Haeckel, but after his research in the development of marine animals such as sea urchin eggs in Naples, he became critical of mechanism. He introduced Aristotle's concept of entelecheia, established a supernatural principle as the basis of life phenomena, and advocated a new vitalism. In philosophy, he advocated orderology, and in psychology, he advocated parapsychology. In 1847, the Driesch Society was founded in Regensburg. His main works include Geschichte des Vitalismus (1905), Leib und Seele (16), and Parapsychologie (32).

ドイツの生物学者，生命哲学者。 1891～1900年イタリアの生物学研究所に勤務したのち，11年ハイデルベルク大学助教授，20年ケルン，21～33年ライプチヒの各大学教授。最初，E.ヘッケルの影響を受けたが，ナポリでのうに卵などの海産動物の発生学的研究を契機として，機械論に対して批判的となった。アリストテレスのエンテレケイアの概念を導入して，生命現象の根本に超自然的原理を設定し，新生気論を主張した。哲学的には秩序学を主張し，また心理学的には超心理学を主張した。 47年ドリーシュ協会がレーゲンスブルクに設立された。主著『生気論の歴史』 Geschichte des Vitalismus (1905) ，『身体と精神』 Leib und Seele (16) ，『超心理学』 Parapsychologie (32) 。
