Mr. Hongo

Japanese:
Mr. Hongo
A samurai family in the medieval Wakasa Province. They lived in Hongo, Oi County (present Hongo, Oi Town, Oi County, Fukui Prefecture). They are thought to have been vassals of the eastern provinces, and in 1213 (Kenpo 1), when the Kamakura Shogunate selected the "geinohaya" (people who served in the shogun's court) from the "Kenko-no-tsubo" (attendants of the Shogun's court) to serve as academic officials, Mimasaka Sakondayu Asachika was included as one of them, as recorded in the Azuma Kagami. He was probably made the land steward of Hongo in Wakasa Province after the Jokyu War, and it is believed that his descendants inherited his position from this place onwards. He also held the land stewardship of Hinakura Manor in Mino Province, the land stewardship of Nakajo Kitakata 1bun in Yoshikawa Manor in Echigo Province, the land stewardship of Nagatomiho Komon in Wakasa Province (later as a substitute land stewardship of Yonedaho in Etchu Province), and other territories.
