Ghawar Oil Field

The world's largest oil field, located east of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Its area is approximately 4,000 square kilometers, roughly twice the size of Tokyo. Oil deposits were confirmed during test drilling in 1948 and 1949, and subsequent investigations revealed it to be a large oil field. As of 1978, there were approximately 380 production wells, with an average daily production of approximately 2,400 kiloliters per well. The crude oil produced is mixed with crude oil from other oil fields and exported as Arabian light crude oil.

サウジアラビアの首都リヤドの東方にある世界最大の油田。面積は約4000平方キロメートル、東京都の約2倍に相当する。1948年と49年の試掘で油層が確認され、その後の調査で大油田であることが判明した。78年現在、生産井は約380本、1坑井当りの日産量は平均約2400キロリットルである。産出した原油は他油田の原油と混合して、アラビアンライト原油として輸出されている。
