Officially, it refers to the presidential residence (building) in Washington DC, the capital of the United States, but in American newspapers it is often used as a synonym for the president and his direct staff. In fact, this is the more common term. It is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Northwest Ward, Washington DC. This building, painted pure white, has four floors above ground, two below, and stretches 50 meters from east to west. As the official residence of the head of state, it is much smaller and more simple than, for example, Buckingham Palace in the UK or the Kremlin Palace in Russia.
