Drill press - Boruban (English spelling) boring machine

A machine tool that mainly uses a drill to drill holes in workpieces. The origin of the name is said to be the Dutch word boor-bank. The tool is given a rotary cutting motion and a feed motion at the same time. In addition to drilling holes, it can perform countersinking, countersinking, tapping, reaming, deep countersinking, center drilling, and boring. The drill press is the most widely used machine tool, and there are many types, including upright drill presses, radial drill presses, bench drill presses, multi-spindle drill presses, multi-head drill presses, deep hole drill presses, girder drill presses, and portable drill presses. Of these, the most widely used models are the upright drill press, radial drill press, and bench drill press. Upright drill presses are suitable for machining relatively small workpieces, and since the position of the main spindle is fixed, the workpiece is moved to position it. Radial drilling presses are used when the workpiece is large and difficult to move, or when a normal drilling press spindle cannot reach the drilling position, and the arm to which the spindle head is attached is rotated around the column to position the hole and perform the drilling. Bench drilling presses are small drilling presses that are installed on a workbench and are used to drill holes in small workpieces.

主としてドリルを用いて工作物に穴あけ加工を施す工作機械。語源は、オランダ語のboor-bankといわれている。工具には回転切削運動を与えると同時に送り運動を行わせる。ドリルによる穴あけのほかに、さらざぐり、ざぐり、タップ立て、リーマ仕上げ、深ざぐり、センター穴あけ、中ぐりなどの作業を行うことができる。ボール盤はもっとも広く用いられる工作機械で、種類も多く、直立ボール盤、ラジアルボール盤、卓上ボール盤、多軸ボール盤、多頭ボール盤、深穴ボール盤、ガーダーボール盤、ポータブルボール盤などがある。このうち多用されている機種は直立ボール盤、ラジアルボール盤、卓上ボール盤である。直立ボール盤は比較的小型の工作物を加工するのに適しており、主軸の位置が固定しているため、工作物を動かしてその位置決めを行う。ラジアルボール盤が用いられるのは工作物が大型で移動が困難な場合、または普通のボール盤主軸が穴あけ位置まで届かない場合などで、主軸頭が取り付けられたアームをコラムの周りに旋回させて位置決めし、穴加工を行う。卓上ボール盤は作業台上に据え付けて使用する小形のボール盤で、小形の工作物の穴あけを対象とした作業が行われる。
