Avedon - Richard Avedon

Avedon - Richard Avedon

American photographer. He is internationally active in the field of commercial photography, mainly working on fashion and portrait photography. Born in New York. He is said to have shown extraordinary talent in poetry and photography since his childhood. After World War II, he attended public schools in New York and studied at Columbia University, and at the age of 21, he entered the world of fashion photography while he was a student, where he met the famous art director Alexey Brodovitch (1898-1971). At Brodovitch's recommendation, he became a full-time staff member of Harper's Bazaar magazine and received high praise, and then worked for Life and Vogue, quickly gaining a solid position as a photographer in the 1950s. His photographic expression not only has an aesthetic that eloquently speaks of the epitome of elegance, but also skillfully depicts universal human qualities through sharp human observation rooted in a rich humanity. Good examples of this include his representative collection Observations (1959) and Nothing Personal (1964), a collaboration with author James Baldwin.
