The Kitakurage, found in the Akkeshi region of Hokkaido, and the freshwater Moon jellyfish, are easy to spot because their medusas are about 20 mm in diameter, but the Kitakurage polyps are only 0.3 to 0.5 mm tall and have only one tentacle, while the Moon jellyfish polyps are about 1 mm long, do not have long tentacles, and are sometimes covered in mud, making them difficult to find. Hydrocorals such as Gypsophila and Itamirepora have a hard skeleton made by the coenchyma secreting calcareous matter, but there are two types of polyps, finger-like polyps that capture food, and nutritive polyps that digest food, with a division of labor. …
