Hortensius method - Lex Hortensia (Latin)

Ancient Roman law. In 287 BC, when the plebeians fled the city (secesio) and came into conflict with the patricians, Quintus Hortensius (year of birth and death unknown) was appointed dictator, and passed a law making the resolutions of the Plebeian Assembly binding on the entire nation, thus finally ending the status struggle between the patricians and the plebeians, which had been in constant conflict during the first half of the Republic. After this, the Plebeian Assembly became almost indistinguishable from the Tribal Assembly, and it gradually gained importance, especially as a legislative assembly.
