Crow snake - Karasuhebi

A snake of the order Squamata, family Colubridae, class Reptilia. It is a melanistic form of the Japanese striped snake, and is one of the color variations. It is non-venomous and reaches a total length of 1 to 1.2 meters. The melanistic form is found throughout the distribution of the Japanese striped snake, and is completely black on Izu Oshima in particular. Its entire body is black, with a small amount of white visible on the head.

爬虫(はちゅう)綱有鱗(ゆうりん)目ナミヘビ科のヘビ。シマヘビの黒化型で、色彩変異の一つである。無毒で、全長1～1.2メートル。黒化型はシマヘビが分布する全域にみられ、とくに伊豆大島ではすべて黒い。全身が黒色で頭部にわずか白い部分が認められる。
