Born: June 15, 1776 in Milan
Died January 5, 1821. Italian poet from Milan. He formed friendships with Verzee and Manzoni. Witnessing the turbulent society, his spirit also fluctuated wildly, but he remained consistent in his desire for freedom and equality, his criticism of the deceit and stupidity of the clergy and nobility, and his sympathy for those at the bottom of society. He vividly depicted these ideas in the Milanese dialect in works such as La guerra di pret (The Battle of the Priests) and I desgrazi de Giovannin Bongee (The Misfortunes of Giovanni Bongee) (1812-13). His other works include Ninetta del Verzee (14) and the critique El romanticismo (19).
