A paint in which polyurethane, which is generated by the formation of urethane bonds, forms a coating film. The coating film has excellent gloss and thickness, good hardness and chemical resistance, excellent flexibility, and high abrasion resistance. Isocyanates, the main component of polyurethane coating film formation, are classified into aromatic and aliphatic types, with the former having the disadvantage of being prone to yellowing. In addition, isocyanate monomers are toxic to varying degrees depending on the type, and require careful handling, so disaster prevention guidelines (by the Disaster Prevention Chemical Committee of the Chemical Society of Japan) have been established.

ウレタン結合の形成によって生成されるポリウレタンが塗膜となる塗料。塗膜は光沢，肉持ち感にすぐれ，硬度，耐薬品性が良好で，たわみ性に富み，耐摩耗性が大きい。ポリウレタン塗膜形成主要素であるイソシアネートには芳香族系と脂肪族系があり，前者は黄変しやすい欠点がある。また，イソシアネートモノマーには，その種類により程度の差はあるが毒性があり，取扱いに注意を要するので防災指針(日本化学会防災化学委員会による)が定められている。
