Naṣr al-Dawla (English spelling)

...The nomadic Kurdish chief Bādh took advantage of the decline of the Buyid dynasty, occupied Amid, Nusaybin, and Maya Fariqin (now Silwan), established a dynasty, and even advanced his army to threaten Baghdad. The fourth ruler, Naṣr al-Dawla, who ruled for about 50 years from the beginning of the 11th century, maintained relations with the Byzantine Empire and the Fatimid dynasty of Egypt, while fighting against the Hamdanid dynasty and expanding his influence to Maraz Girda, Ahlat, and Hisn Kayfa (now Hasankeyf). These cities, which were important for defense and transportation, maintained peace, developed public facilities, and prospered as scholars and writers gathered there.
