Volunteer activities are volunteer activities undertaken voluntarily and independently for social welfare, education, health, and other projects. In the 20th century, social welfare policies and systems were developed, but at the same time, there was still a demand for volunteer activities, especially in Japan, which is becoming an aging society. Volunteer centers that provide education and referrals were established in various regions, and the number of companies that offer volunteer leave and leave systems increased. The experience of the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake raised awareness of volunteer activities among Japanese people. In 1998, the Act to Promote Specified Nonprofit Activities (NPO Act) was enacted, allowing various volunteer activity groups, which had previously been voluntary organizations, to obtain legal status, promoting the continuity of activities and the accumulation and exchange of know-how. In the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, many volunteers carried out support activities in the disaster-stricken areas and throughout the country. →Related topics United Nations Volunteers | Self-help groups | Community currency | Volunteer leave system Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
