Battle of Ujigawa

(1) A battle in 1184 between the armies of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Minamoto no Yoshinaka across the Uji River. The story of Yoshitsune's army, Sasaki Takatsuna and Kajiwara Kagesue, riding on Ikezuki and Surusumi, competing for the lead in the vanguard is well-known in the Tale of the Heike. (2) During the Jōkyū War in 1221, this was the final battle between the shogunate army led by Hojo Yasutoki and the imperial army.
