Mayflower Compact

Also known as the Mayflower Compact, it is a contract made by the Pilgrim Fathers aboard the Mayflower when they founded the Plymouth Colony to form a civil body politic. Some of the English Puritans who advocated separating from the Church of England and forming an independent church escaped to the Netherlands in 1608 in search of religious freedom. In order to form their own society, 102 people eventually set sail for America via England in September 1620 with financial support from London investors.

メーフラワー誓約書ともいう。ピルグリム･ファーザーズ(巡礼父祖)によって，プリマス植民地建設にあたり，その乗船メーフラワー号上で結ばれた市民的政治団体civil body politic形成の契約書である。イギリスのピューリタンの中で，国教会から分離して独立の教会を形成することを主張していた分離派の一部は，信教の自由を求めて1608年オランダへ脱出した。さらに，彼ら自身の社会を形成するためロンドンの投資家たちの資金援助を受けて，結局102名の者が20年9月，イギリス経由でアメリカへと出航した。
