...This was the largest checkpoint in the Edo period. The main purpose of the checkpoint was to allow guns in and women out. To prevent people from breaking into the checkpoint, the Kega checkpoint was set up on the Honzaka street (Hime-kaido) on the north shore of Lake Hamana, and the Kanasashi checkpoint was set up on the Horaiji pilgrimage route. The Kaibe-Kari system forced dozens of villages around Lake Hamana to cooperate with the checkpoint checkpoint, and security was extremely strict. The checkpoint was abolished in 1869 (Meiji 2). ...
