Founder of the Slave Dynasty, a Muslim dynasty in India (reigned 1206-10). He ruled over the Ghorid dynasty's Indian territory as a military commander under Muhammad (→Muhammad Ghori), but after Muhammad's death, he established his own dynasty with Delhi as its capital. The construction of the famous Islamic building Qutub Mosque, which still stands on the outskirts of Delhi, began during his reign.

The capital of Samangan Province in north-central Afghanistan. 310 km northwest of Kabul. Located on the left bank of the Samangan River. It is the center of the surrounding irrigated agricultural areas, and there are many Buddhist ruins (2nd to 5th centuries) such as stupas nearby. There is a market in the city that shows the hustle and bustle of the past. Population is about 40,000.

アフガニスタン中央北部,サマンガーン州の州都。カブールの北西 310km。サマンガーン川左岸に位置する。周辺の灌漑農耕地帯の中心地で,近くにストゥーパなど仏教遺跡 (2~5世紀) が多い。市内には昔ながらの活況を伝える市場がある。人口約4万。
