Sine bar - Sai nbaa (English spelling) sine bar

Japanese: サインバー - さいんばー（英語表記）sine bar

An instrument for setting or measuring angles using the sine of the trigonometric functions of a right triangle. By combining gauge blocks to create heights H and h as shown in the figure , a given angle a can be set and used to machine a workpiece to that angle a or as a measurement standard. Its structure is simple, with two rollers of the same diameter attached to a hardened steel bar of uniform thickness, the line connecting the centers of the rollers is finished to be exactly parallel to the top surface of the steel bar, and the distance L is set to an integer length such as 100 or 200 mm to make calculations easier. Most sine bars actually used are designed so that only one pair of gauge blocks is needed.

直角三角形の三角関数のサインを利用した角度設定、あるいは測定のための器具。図のようにブロックゲージを組み合わせてHおよびhの高さをつくることにより、与えられた角度aを設定して、工作物をその角度aに加工したり、測定の基準として用いたりする。その構造は簡単で、厚さが均一の焼入れした鋼棒に同一直径の二つのローラーが取り付けられ、そのローラーの中心を互いに結ぶ線は鋼棒の上面と正確に平行に仕上げられ、かつその距離Lは、計算を容易にするために100、200ミリメートルというように整数長にしてある。実際に用いられているサインバーの多くは、1組のブロックゲージですむような構造につくられている。
