Bogd uul (mountain)

Japanese: ボグドオーラ[山]（英語表記）Bogd uul

It means "Holy Mountain" in Mongolian. There are many mountains with this name, but the following two are famous. (1) A 5,445m high mountain located in the eastern Tianshan, north of the Turfan Basin. Formerly called Mount Donhan, its northern foothills were the home of nomads. (2) A mountain located in the southern suburbs of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Its highest peak is 2,257m. The northern slope is densely forested and rich in wild game. In the 12th century, Ong Khan of the Kerait tribe lived in this area, and later Jebtsundamba Khutkut lived there, which became the foundation of present-day Ulaanbaatar.

モンゴル語で聖山という意味。この名を冠した山は多いが，以下の2山が有名。(1)天山山脈東部，トゥルファン盆地の北方にある高さ5445mの山。かつて貪汗山と称され，その北麓は遊牧民の拠る所であった。(2)モンゴルの首都ウランバートル南郊にある山。最高峰は2257m。北斜面は森林が茂り野獣が豊かである。この付近に12世紀にケレイト部のオン･ハンが拠り，のちジェブツンダンバ･フトクトが居し，それが今のウランバートルの基礎となった。
