Siamang - Bag-tailed gibbon (English spelling)

Japanese: フクロテナガザル - ふくろてながざる（英語表記）siamang

An ape (illustration) of the family Ceratoidea in the order Primates. It is the largest of the gibbons, and is so named because it has a large vocal pouch in its throat. It is also known as the shaman. It was once often classified as a separate genus, the Siamangrei, but is now usually included in the genus Gibbon along with other gibbons. It is found in the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. Its entire body is covered in jet black hair, and it has a membrane between the second and third toes of its legs. It weighs 9-13 kg, its head and body length is 44-63 cm, and there is almost no difference between the sexes.

霊長目ショウジョウ科の類人猿（イラスト）。テナガザル類の中ではもっとも大型で，のどに大きな鳴きぶくろをもつことからこの名がある。別名シャーマン。かつてはよくフクロテナガザル属として別属に分類されたが，現在では他のテナガザルとともにテナガザル属に含められるのがふつうである。マレー半島とスマトラ島に分布する。全身真っ黒な毛で覆われ，脚の第2指と第3指の間に皮膜をもつのが特徴である。体重は9～13kg，頭胴長44～63cmで，性差はほとんどない。
