A general term for brachiopods belonging to the class Articulata. This name comes from the resemblance of the two shells to the fruit of the plant Physalis. The English name was also given to this species because the small holes in the protruding apex of the shell resemble an Arabian lamp. All species live in the sea, attaching to the surface of sponges, stony corals, and reefs with their fleshy stalks facing upwards on well-permeable seafloors at depths of 10m or more. Shell length is 10-50mm. The two shells are not located in front of and behind the animal's body as in bivalves, but are developed in a dorsoventral position, and the shapes of the two shells are different.
