Stocking fishing grounds

Japanese: 飼付漁場 - かいつけぎょじょう

Bait is spread on underwater reefs where schools of fish tend to gather, and the migrating fish are kept there and then caught by fishing or long line. The area where fish are kept by spreading bait is called a stocking fishing ground, and fishing carried out in this fishing ground is called stocking fishery. The target fish are yellowtail, mullet, etc. Frozen pacific saury, mackerel, sardines, etc. are used as bait. In the case of the yellowtail stocking fishery in Wakayama Prefecture, an area with a depth of 70 to 90 meters and surrounding sand with bottom islands and sunken ships 10 to 20 meters high is selected, where yellowtail schools often come every year, and bait is spread in the mid-layer every day, keeping the yellowtail schools near the bottom islands and then fishing them up.

魚群の集まりやすい海底の礁の上に撒餌（まきえ）をして，回遊してきた魚群をそこにとどめておき，釣りまたははえなわで漁獲する。撒餌によって魚群をとどめておくところを飼付漁場，この漁場で行う漁業を飼付漁業という。ブリ，ボラなどを対象とする。餌としては冷凍のサンマ，サバ，イワシなどを用いる。和歌山県のブリ飼付漁業の場合，水深70～90mで周辺が砂地の高さ10～20mの底島や沈船のある場所で，例年ブリ群がよく来遊するところを選び，連日，中層に撒餌して，ブリ群をその底島付近に滞留させ釣りあげる。
