Laqueus rubellus (Japanese name: Laqueus rubellus)

A brachiopod of the family Laqueidae. It is found throughout Japan and the Hawaiian Islands, and is collected attached to other objects using bottom trawls at depths of 40 to 500 meters. The shell is almost circular, usually about 3 cm long, 2.3 cm wide, and 1.5 cm thick, with the dorsal and ventral shells swelling equally, a yellowish pink color, and no markings. There are minute circular holes on the entire surface of the shell, and concentric growth lines can be seen. There is an elliptical shell apical hole at the rear between the dorsal and ventral shells, from which a fleshy stalk emerges and attaches to other objects.

ラクエウス科の腕足動物。日本各地からハワイ諸島にかけて分布し，水深40～500mから底引網などで他物に着生しているものが採集される。殻はほぼ円形で，長さ3cm，幅2.3cm，厚さ1.5cmほどのものが多く，背腹の両殻の膨らみはほぼ等しく，黄色をおびた淡紅色で斑紋はない。殻の全面には微細な円形の孔があり，また同心円状の成長線が見られる。背腹両殻間の後側に楕円形の殻頂孔があって，ここから肉茎がでて他物に着生する。
