Steel material rolled into a plate shape. There are many types of each, and the quality of thin steel plates has improved, especially with the use of strip mills, and the types of steel plates using thin steel plates have become more diverse. Detailed standards are provided in the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS).

板状に圧延した鋼材。厚さによって薄鋼板，中鋼板，厚鋼板に，圧延の方法によって熱間圧延鋼板と冷間圧延鋼板に大別され，その他，形状や加工の別によって帯鋼，化学処理鋼板，化粧鋼板などに類別される。それぞれに多くの種類のものがあり，特にストリップ・ミルにより薄鋼板の高品質化が進み，薄鋼板を用いた鋼板品種は多様化してきている。日本工業規格 JISに詳細な規格が設けられている。
