Satto-ra

A Chinese poet from the late Yuan Dynasty. His pen name was Tianxi and his pen name was Zhizai. He was from the Islamic Tasman tribe and was a Jinshi (official scholar) in 1327 (4th year of Taiding). He was posted to many local government offices, and enjoyed visiting mountains and rivers and composing poems for scenic beauty. His style of poetry, which is particularly skilled in elegant seven-character lines and combines fresh lyricism with a bold side that has the elegance of Tang poetry, opened up a new world in the poetry world of the late Yuan Dynasty and attracted many devoted readers, including Lu Xun. His grandfather had lived in Yanmen, Shanxi Province, so he named his collection "Yanmen Collection." His biography is recorded in Volume 238 of the "New Yuan History."

中国、元(げん)末の詩人。字(あざな)は天錫(てんしゃく)。号は直斎。イスラム系答失蛮(タシマン)部の出身で、1327年（泰定4）の進士。多くの地方官となって各地に赴任し、好んで山水に遊んで景勝に詩を賦(ふ)した。流麗な七言歌行(かこう)にもっとも優れ、新鮮な叙情性とともに、唐詩の格調を備えた豪放な一面をあわせもつその詩風は、元末の詩壇に新生面を開き、魯迅(ろじん／ルーシュン)をはじめ多くの愛読者をもたらした。祖父の代から山西省雁門(がんもん)に住んだ縁で、その集を『雁門集』と名づける。伝は『新元史』巻238に記される。
