Loose housing system

A management method in which dairy cows are allowed to roam freely. As opposed to the single-cow tethered system. The dairy cowsheds in the loose housing system are called loose barns. Its characteristic is that it reduces the labor required for large-scale dairy cow rearing through labor-saving management. The cows are allowed to eat roughage freely, and the straw bedding is stepped on and the manure is removed only twice a year. This system is suitable for economic conditions where labor is high and roughage is relatively abundant and cheap. In the opposite case, the single-cow tethered system is more advantageous.

乳牛群を放し飼いにする管理方式。単飼繋留式に対する。ルースハウジングシステムの乳牛舎をルースバーン (開放式牛舎) と呼んでいる。その特徴は乳牛の多頭飼育に伴う省力管理による労働の軽減で，粗飼料は牛の自由採食にまかせ，敷わらも踏込式で年2回ほどの糞出ししかしない。この方式は労働賃金が高く，粗飼料は比較的豊富で安いという経済的条件の場合に適し，逆の場合は単飼繋留方式のほうが有利ということになる。
