Law on Door-to-Door Sales, etc.

Law on Door-to-Door Sales, etc.
Law No. 57 of 1976. This law aims to protect consumers in door-to-door sales. Door-to-door sales, where a salesman visits a home to sell products without setting up a store, as well as mail order sales, telephone sales, and chain sales, are convenient for consumers because they can shop without leaving their homes. However, they can sometimes take advantage of the sense of security that consumers have when they are at home, or they can stay inside the home or make a contract by visiting at an unreasonable time, which can lead to various troubles. With the enactment of this law, sellers must disclose their name and the type of product to the door-to-door sales destination and must provide a sales contract, and buyers can generally cancel the contract within 8 days of the contract (→Cooling off period). In November 2000, the law was radically revised and the name was changed to the Specified Commercial Transactions Act.
