An old city in central Tokyo. It was incorporated as a city in 1967. In January 2001, it merged with neighboring Tanashi City to the west and was renamed Nishitokyo City. Located on the Musashino Plateau, it was once a region of scattered farm villages specializing in Nerima radishes. From the Taisho era to the beginning of the Showa era, the area was served by the Seibu Railway Shinjuku Line and Ikebukuro Line, and developed into a suburban residential area. In the 1960s, large housing estates such as Hibarigaoka, which straddles Higashikurume City and the former Tanashi City, were built, and factories for food products, precision machinery, and other industries also moved in. Higashifushimi Inari Shrine is located in the south. 9.05 km2 . Population: 99,010 (1998). Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
